The prime concern for
you as a student is to acquire and
develop visual literacy through
exercise in the formal and stylistic
analysis and comparison of the
visual arts of the western world.
A second
concern is to come to an understanding of art as a
reflection of human expression
through time. We will do this by
tracing the development of
western art in the context of the
cultural, political, religious
and economic events that caused
and
accompanied it.
We will aim to see how art has shaped our views of society, politics,
and ourselves throughout
history and to see how art - even art from
the past - relates to the world
today.
