When one thinks of videogame soundtracks, odd electronic tones and goofy
sound effects are probably imagined.
In recent years, however, soundtrack production for games has
become an industry in its own right.
New gaming systems push the boundaries with graphics, sound, and gameplay, leading producers to desire the
highest-quality experience in music as well. Scores for games like the Final Fantasy
series have become hot items, and composers like Inon
Zur, Clint Bajakian
and Michael Giacchino now have their own fan
followings. Ozzy Osbourne,
Snoop Dogg, Avril Lavigne, Outkast, and many
other artists and bands have recorded music or licensed hits specifically
to games, and many up-and-coming composers score music exclusively for
games, ranging in style from classical orchestral to ultra-modern techno, industrial and hip-hop. Videogame music has become a powerful
new venue in the music.
