If you’re reading a book written by an author with a disease that falls into the broad category of affective illness, you probably would like to know what that is.  An affective illness concerns difficulties in moods, such as low mood, which is depression, or high mood, which is mania.  Those with the most severe forms may show signs of psychosis, suffering from delusions, hallucinations or even formal thought disorder (Long).
