In the midbrain:
Substantia nigra (in Latin meaning “black
stuff” (Davis 27-8): This coordinates muscles’ tone and movement. Other parts of the midbrain get sensory info from the
eyes, ears, and
cerebrum above it. The midbrain
helps to control some muscular
reflexes. Ex: the pupil’s
ability to adjust to different amounts of light is due to the midbrain (Davis 27-28).
