CI280 Internet for Business

 

This course is designed for the businessperson who wants to become acquainted with the tools and resources available through the Internet. Though there are no prerequisites for the course, a working knowledge of computers is expected. The hands-on approach will provide ample opportunity for students to sample the many resources and tools available. Short weekly assignments will help to reinforce what was learned in class and through readings.

October 27: Introduction to the Internet, E-mail
November 3: Usenet, Listservs, World Wide Web
November 10: Web page design, homepages, FrontPage
November 17: text, graphics, links
November 24: sound, tables, photos, scanning
December 1: frames, forms
December 8: Telnet, FTP, File types, finding users, netiquette
December 15: Homepages Show & Tell, Final Exam

Grading:
25% - final exam
50% - weekly assignments
25% - homepage project
Approximate grading scale:
A = 90 - 100%
B = 80 - 89%
C = 70 - 79%
D = 60 - 69%
F = 0 - 59%
Course policy:
Class participation is required. Weekly assignments are expected to be handed in on time by the beginning of each class. Most course correspondence, homework assignment, and homework submission will occur through e-mail. It is the student's responsibility to frequently check e-mail for new messages.

All Clarke students have regular system accounts. Students enrolled in this course only will be assigned system accounts only for the duration of this course. These accounts will be purged upon completion of the course.

Backups of work are the responsibility of the student.
